Fishing for
Something Bigger

5%

of Bluewater Syndicate’s annual profits go to transplant-related causes.

Bluewater Syndicate was built around offshore fishing. It was built during something else entirely.

While we were putting this company together, our family was deep in a kidney transplant journey. My brother stepped forward to be tested as a living donor for our son, while my wife donated her kidney to a stranger.

Those months are inseparable from how this company started, so they are part of what it commits to. This is not a campaign. It is personal.

Why This Is Personal

Our son, Logan, was born premature at 29 weeks with one functioning kidney that has never worked properly. We were told before he was born that a transplant would be needed eventually — nobody could tell us when. School age, maybe. Puberty, maybe. Until then, we would manage it.

He has had a normal life. A busy, completely normal life, threaded through with appointments, labs, and testing. We never let the diagnosis become who he is.

Last year his team at Boston Children’s Hospital looked at his labs and told us it was time to start looking for a living donor.

Since I couldn’t donate, my brother Luke did not hesitate. He put his hand up and started the donor workup. We drove to Boston for three days of testing, and we talked the whole way — about family, about what comes next, and about an idea my best friend Shenton and I had been kicking around called Bluewater Syndicate.

Watching my brother volunteer to have an organ removed for my son rearranges what you think a business is for. Not long after that trip, Luke became part of Bluewater Syndicate.

You Do Not Have to Be a Member to Be Part of This

If our family's story moves you, give directly to the organizations that do this work every day. Your money goes to them, not to us.

National Kidney Registry

The registry behind living-donor transplants across the country. Its Voucher Program is the reason a different blood type no longer ends the conversation between a patient and a willing donor, and its Donor Shield program covers a donor's lost wages while they recover.

The most valuable thing you can give costs nothing

Every person who finds out that a blood-type mismatch is no longer the end of the conversation is one more person who might turn out to be somebody’s match. Reading one of these takes five minutes.

Bluewater Syndicate is a for-profit company, not a charity, and it is not a tax-exempt organization. The 5% pledge is a commitment we fund out of our own profits. Every giving link above goes directly to the organization named on the card — we do not collect, hold, or route those donations, and we take no share of them.
